Serena J. Williams (Vandenberg Air Force Base, California) is an American-Dutch artist and designer working from Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

Working under the name Serena Works, she creates visual worlds through bold colour, retro typography and conceptual storytelling. Her practice moves between graphic design, art and visual communication, exploring the relationship between identity, popular culture and the images that shape everyday life.

Drawing from design history, nostalgia and contemporary culture, Serena combines humour, research and visual experimentation to create work that is playful, distinctive and often unexpected.

Born with the same name as one of the world’s most famous athletes, Serena’s accidental namesake has become an ongoing reflection on identity, recognition and perception, themes that occasionally find their way into her work.

Her work has appeared in Steven Heller’s Design School Confidential and Verpakken Magazine, and she has collaborated with clients across publishing, corporate communication and creative industries.
